Our Dear Brother Joins Chapter Invisible

It is with much sorrow and a heavy heart that I tell you today that our chapter lost our dear brother, James “B.B.” King. He was dedicated to Kappa and was very involved in his community. He will truly be missed.

Mr. James (BB) King Jr., 64, of Roanoke, Va., died suddenly Tuesday morning, August 24, 2010, in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 13, 1946, in Martinsville, Va., to the late James Henry “Richard” King Sr. and Catherine Morris King. He was the grandson of the late William Henry and Catherine Deshazo King, and great-grandson, of Sam and Lizzie Morris. James was a retired teacher of the Roanoke City Public Schools and active in many social and civic organizations: Life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, President of Roanoke Alumni Chapter of Saint Paul’s College, President of Dinner Dance Club, Past President of Roanoke Pan Hellenic Council, Staunch member of the Saint Paul’s College Football Support Team, A Mule of Roanoke Chapter Moles, a “Continental Guy” and Voice of William Fleming Colonels basketball teams. “BB,” as he was affectionately called attended St. Paul High Street Baptist Church in Martinsville, Va., and High Street Baptist Church in Roanoke, Va. He graduated from Albert Harris High School in 1964 and graduated from St. Paul’s College in 1969. James is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Randolph-King; two stepdaughters, Angela Hampton, of Chesapeake, Va., and Monique Randolph, of Richmond, Va.; and cherished stepgranddaughter, Ciara Hampton, of Chesapeake, Va. Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at High Street Baptist Church with the Rev. David L. Chapman officiating. The interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 27, 2010, at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home with a Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Memorial held at 6:15 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.Hamlar-Curtis.com.
